The TADA Theatre is proud to be one of the first regional theatres to produce this recent Broadway hit! This Tony-nominated best revival of a musical follows Bud Davenport and Doug Simon, a pair of aspiring playwrights, who perform a backers’ audition, singing all the songs and playing every role in their idea for the “next great American musical” – a big, splashy production about printing press inventor Johann Gutenberg. Since the duo’s research consists only of a quick Google search, they have scant information about their subject, that leads to a comedic, fast-paced show abounding with energy, often with exaggerated enthusiasm and questionable historical accuracy. With a trunk full of baseball caps and a creative imagination, their hope stands strong that one of the producers in attendance will give them that elusive Broadway contract!
